What better way to express love and care to expecting parents than to create a 
totally homemade birthday gift basket. There is nothing that beats the effort and affection poured into every homemade item in a birthday gift basket. Although it takes a lot of time and a huge amount of effort, it is the perfect demonstration of love. We can always buy baby products in a jiffy but giving homemade gifts is certainly priceless.
There are a few things to take note when you have decided to create a homemade gift basket. Make sure you have enough time to finish all the items you need to include in the basket. If you think you can’t handle creating a certain product might as well think of making something else. Be sure that you don’t break your budget too.
Homemade gifts do not have to be totally homemade. I would not expect you to make pillows or cribs from scratch. With homemade we mean you can add a personal touch and customize each item. You may buy a set of sleepwear for the baby, which includes pajamas, underwear, pillow cases, comforter, bed covers etc. and put a monogram on each item. If you are good in painting you may buy a simple crib and paint it with flowers and trees or any design fit for a baby.
Perhaps you can think of a theme for all the items you decide to throw in the basket. A set of sleepwear is one, toys, photo albums and maybe even books. Another good idea is to make a quilt. You may ask the parents for fabrics of their old clothes which are considered significant to them that you can add to the quilt. You may also use old pictures of the rest of their family and print those out in fabric so you can stitch them together. If you feel that the parents need consumer products that the baby can use, by all means throw in a few baby bottles, milk and even diapers. There is no hard and fast rule on what you should be included in a birthday gift basket. The thought and action of doing such a thing is good enough.
Furthermore, when it comes to packaging, it is always better to choose medium sized ones. You may decorate it with colorful ribbons, tiny balloons, flowers or trinkets and bells to add to the festive theme. The packaging is just as important as what is inside so take a little time to make it nice and beautiful. Be sure to add a small dedication card too, you would not want it to get lost after all the hard work you put into it.
Homemade birthday gift baskets may sound overboard but presenting them to your loved ones is always fun. You may give baby baskets on all kinds of occasions, birthdays, baby showers, baptism, Christmas as well as christenings. Just be sure to ask the parents the gender of the baby first before you start doing something.
