Mother’s Day Flowers and Gift Basket
Ideas Come From Memories of Mom
As Mother’s Day approaches I am reminded of an article I read recently that challenged the reader to make a list of the things they remembered about their mother. My mom has been gone for almost fourteen years, and while some memories of her are faded and dim, some are just as clear as if they happened yesterday.
Gift Baskets and Flowers for Mother’s Day
Mom was a beautiful person and she had a way of knowing just how to soothe hurt feelings and comfort us when disappointments occurred. She also knew how to give her children a push or prod when they needed to get things done. She instilled in us the belief and fearlessness that we could accomplish anything we wanted if we would put forth the effort.
A sense of humor was important to mom and she relished a good joke. We used to enjoy our treks to the beach and the weekends spent in rustic cabins on the water or when we visited the Great Smoky Mountains. When we were not playing in the water or hiking through the woods we played games. She loved to play cards and was a master at scrabble. Sometimes I wondered where and how she came up with some of the words she created, but when we checked them out they were always correct.
Mom had some classic remarks and advice which she never hesitated to offer. One of her favorites was "Anything worth doing is worth doing right" and this has influenced me throughout my life. Another was "Cleanliness is next to godliness" and "Be sure to wear clean underwear without holes; you might have an accident and be taken to the hospital." I bet you have some favorites too.
As we recall these wonderful memories of mom we remember some of the gifts we gave her for Mother’s Day. In the early years they were handmade Mother’s Day Cards crudely fashioned out of colored paper with sentiments written in crayons and paint. As we grew older gifts may have included a lace handkerchief, a box of bath salts or fragrances. My favorite gift for mom was a big box of chocolates, and I ended up eating most of them. What I didn’t eat my brothers did as it was one of their favorite gifts too. She would tease us about who would eat the most of her Mother’s Day box of chocolates.
Mother’s Day is the second Sunday in May and you may be trying to think of a gift to honor your mom. Make a list of things you love about your mom and include it in a card with your gift of flowers or chocolates. This is a wonderful personal way to say,"I love you" to the most important person in your life.
For other gift ideas involve the whole family, especially the children, in choosing the gifts. Help them create a card or poem with Mother’s Day Wishes in which they draw their ideas of what mothers do for them. Have them make a list of things that they can do for her to make her life easier. These tasks can be made into a gift certificate that they can give her. You can buy certificate forms or create your own out of colored paper and crayons.
If your mother is a gardener consider getting her a Gift Basket Tote with a plant or new gardening tool to use in her garden. There are also many wonderful books on gardening including some for the "armchair" gardener. A bouquet of her favorite roses or other fresh flowers is a traditional way to honor Mother’s Day. Another suggestion is to give her "A Day at the Spa" Gift Basket filled with tea, aromatherapy candles, bath and body lotions, bubble bath, and soap. You can also find combination gift baskets and flowers to suit her taste. Whatever you choose remember it is not the size of the gift; it is about the "heart-to-heart" connection to her. Your thoughtfulness is what will linger in her memory.
